Marine Park is home to over 800 Orthodox Jewish families and 13 synagogues. The JCC plans on offering a variety of services to the Marine Park community at-large. Their first endeavor is a comprehensive voter registration drive that will hopefully result in the new registration of over 1,500 people in Marine Park. The JCC is also going to advocate on issues of concern to the community, such as zoning and quality of life.
Said Jeff Leb, a co-founder of the JCC of Marine Park, “It is high time that our community has one voice that will advocate for the needs of our community. The JCC of Marine Park is that voice and I am privileged to be working with its devoted membership.” These sentiments were echoed by co-founder Josh Rubenstein who said, “The Council will provide important and vital services to our constituency throughout Marine Park.”
Yossi Sharf, council treasurer, said he was looking forward to be able to spend money on various projects that will help Marine Park grow and unite. Co-founder Shua Gelbstein added that he was pelased with the enthusiasm, turnout and number of people offering to volunteer for various projects.

Unfortunatley these community councils hold little or no water in the eyes of anyone who actually has any power.

To Anonymous (2:52 PM): You clearly don't know much about politics. JCC's are as influential as you make them. Look at COJO of Fltbush or the JCC of Canarsie. Willie Rapfogel ad Met Council can tell you how powerful Jewish Community Council's could be in New York Politics

I agree with the other post, I worked for a city council member for 2 years, while the city council always listened intently to community councils, their influence is very limited.

It depends on the Council Member. While Council Members like Simcha Felder may be very supportive, Council Members like Charles Barron (for example) may not be.

Jeffrey,
Kudos to all the founders for doing this. A very good idea. Just be careful about the friends you keep. Their actions will reflect poorly on you.

The Council can present a united voice for the frum community and get additional city services, such as the extra erev Pesach sanitation collections such as Flatbush and Borough Park have. If, in the future the community wants an "upzoning", a request for a study of such could be made by the Council to the Community Board and the NYC Department of City Planning.
