Borough Park, NY - Five Hundred Single Mothers Benift From Masbia Yom Tov Services |

“These numbers came in right after Rosh-Hashana”, said Alexander Rapaport executive director of MASBIA, “we knew it anecdotally, we saw it every day, but when you count up the numbers it really gets scary.
“We saw this as a calling, we can’t just sit around in these trying times, although being open throughout the Yomim-Tovim is a challenge by itself, we felt that this year more needs to be done. In regular times people call the needy to their Yom-Tov meals and invite them as guests, but when people cut corners the needy are hit the most.”
Masbia mailed out the Sukkos schedule to close to five hundred single mothers raising children in Brooklyn with a special massage, “if you cannot make it to MASBIA on Yom-Tov we will prepare takeout meals to pick up Erev Yom-Tov”.
Chicken, meat, salmon fish, gefilte fish, soup and side dishes, and all kinds of appetizers, challah and grape juice, were packed up for each family, made-to-order.
“We got so many orders that we couldn’t handle it all alone” said Menashe Silber, Masbia Manager. “We got two Borough Park takeout restaurants to share the load; Forty Seven Street Grill & Take Out and Luzee’s Take Out. Those mothers were able to choose whatever they want for their Yom-Tov meals and Klal-Yisroel, the MASBIA supporters paid the bill”.

This is a tremendous Kiddush Hashem and speaks volumes about the good that members of the community accomplish on a regular basis. Perhaps this idea can be expanded to include offering Masbia free restaurant meals in every kosher restaurant in the city and perhaps other cities as well. I would certainly be willing to pay an extra surcharge on my restaurant meal to feed someone in need.

The difference is that Masbia offers food ready to eat.
It's open to anyone. The one time program allowed women to get ready to eat food for themselves and kids

It's called a soup kitchen. Not to minimize it but the Salvation Army does the same thing for anybody who is needy

Yes it is a soup kitchen, and yes the Salvation army gives to the needy, But the food is not KOSHER. Masbia helps the ones who cannot benefit from the goyishe places. And sadly there are too many who have to rely on it for a decent meal.

Please to not compare MASBIA with the Slavation Army. The types of food that they serve,is as "top of the line" as you would serve your family. Never, ever compare a chesed organization to anything goyish!!
